If you haven’t exercised in a while or are looking for something simple you can do every day, give walking a try. It’s an excellent low-impact workout. It’s simple to do, you don’t need any additional equipment, and you can begin at any fitness level.
If you’re not in great shape, start with a 10 or 15-minute stroll around the neighborhood and work your way up from there. Even if you’re already in fantastic shape, walking can give an effective workout. Walk quickly and incorporate hills and even stairs.
Perhaps your doctor advised you to walk more, or perhaps you simply want to be proactive about your health and well-being. Walking is a great method to get started in either scenario.
Put on a pair of comfortable shoes and go for a walk around your neighborhood. You might also look for a nearby park with a decent walking trail. If the weather does not allow you to go outside, go to your local mall and stroll or use a treadmill.
You may even walk in place in front of your TV at home. Here’s a quick tip to get you moving more. Get up between commercial breaks while sitting on the couch and march in place until your favorite TV show returns. If you use a streaming service, force yourself to walk for 10 minutes in between episodes. Alternatively, put on the television and push yourself to march in place for the duration of the show. While you’re having fun watching TV and moving, time will fly by.
Going for a walk outside can be a lot of fun. Change up your route and walk through different parts of town. Invite a friend to join you on the walk. It’s always wonderful to have someone to talk to, and walking with someone holds you accountable. Last but not least, grab your phone or MP3 player and walk while listening to music or audiobooks to fill the time.
The most important thing is that you go out there, move around, and get in some exercise that is light on your joints, heart, and the rest of your body.
